Performance expectations

Self-fulfilling prophecy (Pygmalion effect): The lower or higher performance of workers reflects preconceived leader expectations about worker capabilities:

People attempt to validate their perceptions of reality even they are faulty.

If a manager expects big things from her people, they aren't likely to let her down.
Similarly, if she expect only minimal performance, they will probably meet those low expectations.
Expectations become reality.
The self-fulfilling prophecy has been found to affect the performance of students, defence personnel and even accountants.
