Gender

Research on rumination offers insights into gender differences in decision making. Rumination refers to reflecting at length. In terms of decision making, it means overthinking problems. Women spend much more time than men analysing the past, the present and the future. Possible reasons include:
-Parents encourage and reinforce the expression of sadness and anxiety more in girls than in boys.
-Women base their self-esteem and well-being on what others think of them
-Women are more empathetic and more affected by events in others' lives, so they have more to ruminate about.
